Magnetic Hexagonal Crystal
A while back I bought some BuckyBalls, which are tiny spherical magnets that can be arranged in all sorts of cool patterns. I keep them at work to mystify coworkers who wander by.

I can see your lens in the reflection! It would be cool to try to take this from further away with something colorful and/or interesting in the reflections

Yeah, I tried to get my face in a different shot, but there is not enough detail conveyed in the balls (because they're not perfect spheres) for that to work. However, I like your idea of using generally colorful or sparkly objects, which wouldn't have to be resolvable.
