Matt and I went to Road Atlanta this weekend to watch the SCCA American Road Race of Champions. I daresay it's more fun to watch than the Petit Le Mans, mainly because there are many different short races (20 laps or 35 minutes each), but also because it's so much easier to move around the 2.54-mile track with much smaller spectator crowds.

I was browsing Road Atlanta stuff online tonight and ran across this video of a spectacular crash in the first Petit Le Mans, 1998.

That video's from a Petit Le Mans? It's legendary.

How do these races compare to Nascar? I take it they do more than continually take left turns around an oval-track?

I find it much more interesting than Nascar, primarily because the track is more complicated. Indeed, it's nice that there are right turns as well.
